Report: Spurs and Arsenal monitoring Premier League defender

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar.

The Daily Mirror claim that both Spurs and their North London rivals Arsenal are both monitoring Schar’s situation at the Magpies.

Schar, 27, has caught the eye in recent weeks which also saw him awarded February’s Premier League goal of the month for his stunning strike in their win against Burnley.

The report claims that Spurs have been tracking Schar since he was at Basel before moving on to have spells at Hoffenheim and Deportivo La Coruna.

He was also included in the Switzerland squad for last summer’s World Cup in Russia, where he started all three of their group games and joined Newcastle for £3million following Deportivo’s relegation from La Liga at the end of the last campaign (BBC).

With Toby Alderweireld available for just £25million during hthe last two weeks of the next transfer window, it appears Spurs are already weighing up potential replacements.
