Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle North London rivals Arsenal this summer for the signature of Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen.
Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that Spurs are prepared to pay €25 million (£22.26m) to land the services of the Danish defender who is an international team-mate of Christian Eriksen.
Arsenal have been linked with Andersen, along with his Sampdoria team-mate Dennis Praet in a double deal worth around €45m (£40.06m).
Spurs could be in the market for a central defender with the ongoing uncertainty over the long term future of Toby Alderweireld.
The club triggered a clause in Alderweireld’s contract to extend his deal until 2020, but in doing so activated a £25m release clause in the current transfer window (Sky Sports).
Andersen has built a reputation for his impressive long-range passing with both feet in a similar style as to what we have become accustomed to seeing with Alderweireld’s raking passes.
However, he does still have a lot to learn at 23, he can be guilty of getting too tight to the opposition player which saw him pick up seven bookings last season.
There are few very players in world football who are a ready replacement for Alderweireld unless Daniel Levy wants to smash the club’s current transfer record.
