Report: Spurs and Arsenal target only available on loan deal

Recent reports in the press indicate that Tottenham are trying to shore up their midfield by bringing in the likes of Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele and Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso (Sky Sports and BBC).

However, another player who has been linked with a move to Spurs is Real Madrid midfielder, Dani Ceballos.

With Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen expressing his desire to play for Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet), it was initially reported that Los Blancos were ready to offer £45 million plus Ceballos for Eriksen’s services, but it was claimed that Spurs preferred Marco Asensio to Ceballos (The Sun).

Ceballos was overlooked for several big games by manager Zinedine Zidane last season, and he has reportedly told the Frenchman that he doesn’t want to stay at the club beyond this summer (AS).

A report in Spanish publication COPE now suggests that Tottenham and Arsenal are going head to head for the 23-year-old’s signature.

However, the report claims that while both North London clubs want to sign him on a permanent basis, Los Blancos are adamant that the 22-year-old will only be allowed to leave on loan.

While the Spanish international is clearly talented, it is unclear if he is a backup option for Spurs or one of their primary targets. With Eriksen now looking like he might stay at the club, and with Spurs reportedly after the likes of Ndombele and Lo Celso, it doesn’t appear as if Ceballos is not at the top of Tottenham’s wish list.
