Report: Spurs and Borussia Dortmund in pole position to land experienced defender

A positive update regarding Tottenham’s rumoured chase of Thomas Meunier has emerged today as reports in France claim that the Lilywhites are in pole position to land him.

Meunier’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out this summer and since free agents will likely be in demand, there is expected to be no shortage of suitors for the right-back.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Belgian international of late with Sport (via Sport Witness) suggesting last month that the full-back could move to North London when his contract with PSG runs out.

Jose Mourinho is said to have personally called the defender in order to convince him to join him at Spurs, according to ESPN.

Le Parisien now asserts that the 28-year-old has already played his last game for PSG as the Ligue 1 champions have decided not to offer him a new deal.

They claim that, while several clubs have enquired about Meunier’s availability, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are leading the race to land him.

I believe that Meunier has replaced Max Aarons as our number one target at right-back due to the financial impact of the coronavirus. The club likely views the opportunity to sign a top defender like him on a free transfer as too good an opportunity to miss under the current circumstances.
