Report: Spurs and Chelsea among clubs monitoring 23-year-old striker

According to a report from 90min, Tottenham are among a host of Premier League clubs tracking Wolfsberger AC striker Shon Weissman.

The 23-year-old centre forward, who left Maccabi Haifa to join the Austrian side this summer, has made a fantastic start to the season, netting 17 goals in just 13 games in all competitions so far this campaign (transfermarket.com).

The report claims that scouts from Spurs along with Chelsea, Leicester, and West Ham have been monitoring the forward closely in the past few weeks.

His performances in the Europa League, in particular, are said to have made the English top-flight quartet take notice of the forward’s progress. In fact, scouts from over a dozen clubs across Europe were reportedly in attendance to watch Weissman is action against Roma last Thursday.

Spurs might be looking to add to their attacking options in January after Fernando Llorente saw his contract with the club run out in the summer and instead made the switch to Napoli, leaving the North London club without an experienced understudy.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is hard to imagine Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min being dislodged from the side, Tottenham certainly need a plan B in some games and so it makes sense for a club to be pursuing a strong centre forward who can hold the ball up.

While Wissman’s record in Israel and Austria are fantastic, it remains to be seen if he is ready to make the step up to Premier League level.
