Report: Spurs and Chelsea both interested in experienced Real Madrid man

CalcioMercatoWeb.it have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.

Asensio has featured over 200 times for Real Madrid since joining Los Blancos from Mallorca in 2014 but the Spain international has just 12 months left on his contract with the La Liga giants (Transfermarkt).

CalcioMercatoWeb claim that Real Madrid are ready to cash in on the winger as they wish to make room for new signings.

The report states that the 26-year-old is also keen to leave Santiago Bernabeu in search of a new challenge this summer and he wants to play regular football in order to ensure he makes the Spain squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

AC Milan are said to be the front-runners for Asensio’s signature while Tottenham and Chelsea are also thought to have their eye on the player.

CalcioMercatoWeb claim that Madrid’s €40m (£34m) valuation of the winger has held back Milan from accelerating their pursuit but it is asserted that the Rossoneri have not given up on the Spain international.

It is suggested that if Madrid drop their asking price for Asensio over the coming days and weeks, the Serie A side are primed to pounce.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham did hold an interest in Asensio, I suspect Conte would have wanted to convert the 26-year-old into a wing-back. However, with Perisic, Sessegnon, Spence, Doherty and Lucas (assuming Emerson is sold), we now have plenty of options for both wing-back roles.
