Report: Spurs and Chelsea both interested in signing Leicester City defender

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs are expected to add some major reinforcements to their backline this summer, with previous reports indicating that Torino’s Gleison Bremer and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni are on the North London club’s radar (Telegraph).

The Mail have now claimed that Soyuncu, who has been a mainstay of the Leicester backline since arriving from Freiburg in 2018, is another name on Tottenham’s wishlist.

The report explains that the Turkish international, who has 12 months left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium, has changed his representation to Los Angeles-based agency Wasserman.

It is suggested that the move could be a precursor to a big move away from the Foxes this summer. The Mail add that Atletico Madrid are monitoring the 26-year-old’s development while Chelsea also remain on the centre-back’s trail.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not the biggest fan of Soyuncu as I feel that he has a mistake in him and is sometimes too rash. However, I can certainly see why Spurs would be interested in him.

The 26-year-old would be able to cover for all three positions in Conte’s back three, and we need numbers at the back, with Sanchez and Rodon potentially on their way out.

Soyuncu also has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt and the fact that he has 12 months left on his contract with Leicester, means that he is unlikely to be too expensive.
