Report: Spurs and Chelsea could be in ‘transfer battle’ for Italy star

The Daily Express have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea could go head to head for Roma full-back Leonardo Spinazzola this summer.

Spinazzola has gone from strength to strength since leaving Juventus for Rome back in 2019, with the left-back thriving in Paulo Fonseca’s system.

Owing to his impressive performances in the capital, the 28-year-old has also become Italy’s starling left-back under Roberto Mancini.

The Roma man played a starring role in Azzurri’s opening two European Championship games against Croatia and Turkey, even being handed the Man of the Match award in their 3-0 win over the Croats.

The Daily Express now report that Spinazzola’s performances in the Euros could push both Spurs and Chelsea to make a move for him this summer.

It is explained that both London clubs view the Roma man as an option this summer to bolster their backline.

Tottenham are said to be looking at the Italian international as a potential replacement for Danny Rose, who left the club after his contract ran out last month.

Although Reguilon had a poor end to the season, with him, Davies and Sessegnon at the club, and with Dennis Cirkin coming through the ranks, a new left-back is not a priority this summer.

A new right-back is certainly a much more urgent requirement. While Spinazzola is right-footed, he almost always plays as a left-back or a left-wing back, preferring to cut in on his right.
