Report: Spurs and Chelsea could complete sensational swap deal in January

Sky Sports have claimed that a swap deal between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in January involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Conor Gallagher is a possibility.

Several outlets over the last couple of weeks have reported that Spurs are ready to pounce on Gallagher after Chelsea put the midfielder up for sale (talkSPORT).

Meanwhile, it has also been reported recently that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to leave Tottenham in January, with Juventus said to be the player’s preferred destination (The Athletic).

Potential swap deal for Hojbjerg and Gallagher?

Sky Sports have now reported on their live blog that Spurs had ‘the principals of a deal in place’ with Chelsea for Gallagher in the summer but the Blues opted not to sell at the time due to his impressive performances.

The report stated that Tottenham remain interested in the 23-year-old and revealed that they had heard from one source that the England international could be swapped for Hojbjerg in next month’s transfer window.

The publication added that it remains ‘unclear’ whether or not Chelsea are interested in the Dane but Mauricio Pochettino’s men are in the market for a defensive midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be quite surprised if Chelsea were interested in Hojbjerg as the Tottenham man is not a natural fit for Pochettino’s system. Besides, the Blues hierarchy prefer not to sign players over 25 years of age.
