Report: Spurs and Chelsea willing to ‘lay golden bridge’ to sign central defender

Tottenham are alongside Chelsea and Manchester United in looking to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Spurs are in line for a busy summer under Antonio Conte, who has reportedly requested up to six new additions to bring into his squad (Telegraph).

Of those, a centre-back is expected to be high on the agenda with Spurs having fully transitioned into Conte’s three-man defensive system.

And Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Inter defender Skriniar has emerged as a summer transfer window target, with Tottenham keen on securing his services for Conte.

Spurs previously targeted Skriniar ahead of the current campaign but were shunned after the 27-year-old was said to be unconvinced by a move to north London (CalcioMercato).

However, Spurs are not the only Premier League side interested in the Slovakia international with Chelsea and United also keen on ‘laying a golden bridge’ to lure him to England.

Meanwhile, Skriniar’s contract with Inter is set to expire in 2023 (Transfermarkt) which has left the club considering its options regarding his future. But the report adds the Nerazzurri are preparing to offer him a fresh contract extension that would keep him at San Siro until 2027.

Since joining Inter from Sampdoria in 2017, Skriniar has made 214 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt) and featured under current Spurs boss Conte in their Serie A-winning campaign last term.

Skriniar could be a very big name available on the transfer market this summer and someone Tottenham should definitely look at with his contract entering his final year.

But Inter won’t want to lose him for a cut-price even if they are still experiencing financial issues, so this will be a rumour to look out for especially as Conte knows the defender well.
