Report: Spurs and Everton had £27m bids for Juventus defender turned down

According to TuttoJuve, Tottenham Hotspur have had a bid turned down by Juventus for centre-back Merih Demiral.

It was previously reported that Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar was Tottenham’s main centre-back target before the transfer window shuts (Football Insider) but Inter are reportedly not budging on their asking price (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sempre Inter).

Sky Sports suggested that Spurs could instead turn their attentions to Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Another potential centre-back target has now emerged for the Lilywhites, with TuttoJuve reporting that Spurs are eyeing Demiral.

The report claims that Tottenham are competing with Everton for the 22-year-old defender, with Carlo Ancelotti also said to be an admirer of him.

It is asserted that the Lilywhites and the Toffees had both offered €30 million (£27m) for the Turkey international’s services, both of which were turned down by the Serie A giants.

This rumour seems to have come from nowhere and I would not be surprised if it was Demiral’s agent who put our name out there. After all the groundwork we laid for the Skriniar deal last week, with Steve Hitchen even going to Italy to negotiate terms, I would be surprised if we did not make another genuine attempt to land the Slovak before the window closes.
