Report: Spurs and Everton interested in forward with 19 goal contributions last season

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs to have expressed an interest in Clermont Foot forward Mohamed Bayo.

Bayo’s stock has grown considerably over the last two years, with the striker scoring 22 goals in 2020/21 to help Clement win promotion to Ligue 1 before registering 14 goals and five assists in the French top-flight last season (Transfermarkt).

Foot Mercato claim that the 24-year-old’s impressive showing last campaign has attracted the attention of several suitors from across the continent.

The report states that West Ham, Eintracht Frankfurt and Marseille expressed an interest in Bayo towards the end of May.

Those three clubs are now said to have been joined by the likes of Hertha Berlin, Valencia, Everton and Spurs in the race for the Guinea international.

The report adds that, as things stand, it is Lille who are leading the race for the striker and are ready to make an offer of around €11m (£9.4m) for the player’s services.

However, it is explained that Clermont are demanding a fee of around €14m (£12m) to let Bayo leave this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are well-stacked in the forward areas with Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Richarlison and Moura. So, unless Lucas leaves, I do not see Spurs signing another forward.

Bayo is 24 years of age, which means that he is unlikely to fit into the category of a ‘future prospect’ like Pape Sarr, who Spurs can potentially sign and loan out.
