Report: Spurs and four other PL clubs give up on international battle

The Mirror have reported that Premier League clubs have now given up any hope of having their South American plays back and available for the next round of fixtures.

Tottenham face Newcastle away following the international break, with the Magpies fans riding a considerable high after the news of their recent takeover.

However, it appears that Spurs will be without a number of key players for the clash, with Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero on Argentina duty, Emerson Royal with Brazil and Davinson Sanchez with Colombia.

CONMEBOL nations have three fixtures to play during this break, leaving the players with tight turnaround times at the end of the week.

The report states that Liverpool (Alisson and Fabinho), Man City (Ederson and Jesus), Aston Villa (Martinez and Luiz), and Man United (Fred and Cavani) will also be hit hard.

All appeals have reportedly fallen on deaf ears, although the rest of the international break windows this season with only include two South American fixtures, so this issue should not crop up again.

Spurs Web Opinion:

The South American fixtures and the AFCON have made this season a little unfair on some teams. Spurs have been hit hard in the opening weeks while the likes of Liverpool will be stripped in January when Salah and Mane leave.
