Report: Spurs and Inter hold ‘strong interest’ in midfielder ahead of January

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on snapping up Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in January.

Nandez was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window, with reports stating at the time that the Uruguay international had put in a transfer request to complete a move to North London.

Spurs have been backed to reignite their interest in the 25-year-old in January while the midfielder’s agent Pablo Bentacur has admitted the Cagliari president promised to sell his client when the transfer window opens next week.

Sources from Italy claimed last week that Spurs were one of the club’s watching the Uruguay international’s situation along with Napoli, Inter Milan and Leeds United.

According to CalcioMercato’s recent update, Tottenham and Inter are the front-runners for Nandez, with both clubs having a ‘strong interest’ in the midfielder.

However, the report claims that Cagliari do not want to let Nandez leave the club midway into the season. It is explained that while the midfielder has a €36m (£30.3m), he could be available for a lower free.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how well Winks has played over recent weeks, I do not think a central midfielder will be as big a priority for Conte as reinforcements in other areas of the pitch. So, I would be surprised if Spurs pushed ahead with a move for Nandez in January.
