Report: Spurs and Liverpool are set to miss out on 21-year-old as he nears £6m transfer

According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Tottenham are set to face defeat in their rumoured pursuit of Federico Redondo, with the Argentine starlet now thought to be edging closer to a move to Inter Miami.

Last summer, Tottenham secured one of the best young talents in Argentine football, swooping for Alejo Veliz on the back of his breakthrough season at Rosario Central.

The striker has now been loaned out to Sevilla until the end of the season and will get an opportunity to showcase his talents at the highest level and prove to Ange Postecoglou that he is ready for a prominent first-team role at Tottenham.

It turns out that Spurs also had their eye on another budding talent from the South American nation, with the Lilywhites alleged to have followed the progress of Redondo, who has been creating waves in the Primera Division for Argentinos Juniors.

In fact, it was Merlo who first revealed on The Redmen TV Podcast that the Lilywhites and Liverpool could battle it out for the defensive midfielder’s services.

Inter Miami deal close for Federico Redondo

However, Merlo has now taken to social media to provide an update on Redondo’s future, revealing that Inter Miami are now in ‘very advanced negotiations’ to sign the youngster.

The journalist added that the Major League Soccer club are preparing an offer of $8m (£6.3m) for the 21-year-old, which Argentinos Juniors are willing to accept.

Tottenham may have scouted Redondo over the last 12 months but there is no indication to suggest that Spurs’ interest in the midfielder was concrete or moved beyond the observation stage, with none of the British outlets picking up the story.
