Report: Spurs and Liverpool in ‘front row’ to land 25-year-old Serie A star

CalcioMercato have now suggested that Liverpool could be Tottenham’s main competitor for the signing of Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners.

Koopmeiners has been the main engine of Atalanta’s midfield since arriving at the club two and half years ago, with the Dutchman dazzling with his all-round play.

The 27-year-old, who has nine goals and four assists across all competitions so far this campaign, has been mooted as a target for Spurs by various Italian outlets recently.

This includes an update from the print edition of Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) a couple of weeks ago, which claimed that Tottenham have already begun work to sign the Netherlands international.

A few days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that Juventus are also interested in the midfielder and that they could have an advantage over other suitors as the player would prefer to remain in Italy.

Spurs are one of the front-runners for Koopmeiners

CalcioMercato have now provided a comprehensive update on the situation, explaining that Atalanta have not yet decided whether to cash in on Koopmeiners.

The report says that the player could stay put at the Serie A side if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

However, it is suggested that Gian Piero Gasperini’s men could ‘hold an auction’ to see how much Premier League sides are willing to offer for their star, with Liverpool and Tottenham said to be ‘in the front row’.

The publication adds that should Atalnata decide to sell Koopmeiners, they would demand top dollar for him and would want to emulate Rasmus Hojlund’s sale to Manchester United last summer, which was worth €85m (£73m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are likely to enter the market for a midfielder and Koopmeiners is the right profile player for the club. Like Bentancur, the Dutchman can operate in front of the back four or a slightly more advanced role, thus giving Ange a lot of options.
