Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are the front-runners in the race to sign Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella, Marca report.
Barella is coming off an outstanding campaign, playing a key part in Inter’s historic Scuddeto win and being one of the Azzurri’s best performers on their path to lifting the European Championships.
CalcioMercato reported in January that Spurs had their eye on the midfielder, whose current deal at the San Siro runs until 2024, while La Gazzetta dello Sport reported last month that the North Londoners are set to make a summer approach for the Inter star.
Marca have now revealed that the Lilywhites and the Reds are at the front of the queue for Barella’s signature.
However, the report explains that Inter do not have such an urgent need to sell the player after cashing in on Achraf Hakimi and cutting Antonio Conte’s salary off their wage bill.
It is asserted that the Nerrazuri are determined to hold on to the 24-year-old at all costs.

Any chance we had of signing Barella is now well and truly over after the season he has just had. Even if Inter change their minds and decide to cash in on him, their asking price for the midfielder will be well beyond what Spurs can afford to pay.
