Report: Spurs and Liverpool open ‘exploratory talks’ over deal for attacking midfielder

Voetbal Krant have now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have already begun talks over a summer deal for Genk sensation Bilal El Khannouss but the Lilywhites are thought to be facing plenty of competition for the youngster’s services.

El Khannouss has not looked back since establishing himself as a regular in the Genk team last season and the attacking midfielder is continuing to catch the eye of scouts around the continent with his impressive displays.

It was first reported by Corriere dello Sport a few months ago that Tottenham and Liverpool are both keeping a keen eye on the 19-year-old but the speculation on the player has gone quiet since then.

Tottenham have opened talks for El Khannouss

Voetbal Krant have now provided an update on El Khannouss’ future, saying that the attacking midfielder continues to be on the radar of Tottenham and Liverpool.

In fact, it is asserted that the two Premier League sides are ‘currently in exploratory talks’ over a deal while Atletico Madrid are also ‘a weekly appearance’ at the Cegeka Arena to watch the player.

The publication adds that Liverpool, Spurs and Atletico Madrid ‘plan to make a move’ for the Morocco international this summer while Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are also quite keen on him.

Finally, it is asserted that it would require a bid of around €25m (£21.3m) to poach the teenager away from Genk this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Tottenham having signed another young midfielder of a very similar profile to El Khannouss in the form of Lucas Bergvall, I am not sure this move would make too much sense for the Lilywhites this summer.
