Report: Spurs and Liverpool receive potential boost in race for centre-back

90 min have suggested that Napoli are now reluctantly starting to accept the fact they might have to sell Kim Min-Jae this summer amidst interest from Tottenham and other Premier League sides.

Kim has been a revelation since his switch to Naples last summer, with the defender playing a key role in the club’s historic Scudetto win this season.

The centre-backs’ performances this season are said to have caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, with 90 min stating that Tottenham have sent scouts to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium to watch the defender in action this season.

The report claims that Spurs are ‘long-term admirers of Kim’ but they could face competition from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea for his signature this summer.

It is explained that Napoli have tried to tie down the 26-year-old to a new contract but their efforts have proven unsuccessful so far.

While Luciano Spalletti’s men have not given up hope that Kim will sign a new deal, there is now thought to be an acceptance that bids in excess of €60m (£52.1m) would be difficult to turn down.

90 min explain that while the South Korean’s contract does contain a release clause worth around €45m (£39m) which would be active for the first two weeks of the summer transfer window, that entire sum would have to be paid up-front, which would be difficult for any side to do.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not sure Kim would be particularly keen on joining Spurs, given that we likely would not have Champions League football to offer next season.

While Son can perhaps put in a word for us, I do not think that would be enough, particularly since the centre-back now has a taste of winning big trophies.
