Report: Spurs and Man City willing to pay £33.6m for centre-back this summer

Calciomercao.it have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to spend €40m (£33.6m) on Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij this summer.

De Vrij was a mainstay in Antonio Conte’s backline at Inter Milan and it has previously been reported that the Italian wants to reunite with the Dutchman in North London (Inter Live).

According to multiple sources, Inter are considering cashing in on the 30-year-old in order to fund moves for their transfer targets (TuttoMercatoWeb and TuttoSport).

Journalist Paul Brown told GiveMeSport this week that he would be ‘very surprised’ if Tottenham do not make an offer for the Netherlands international this summer.

Calciomercato.it have now claimed that both Spurs hold ‘a very serious interest’ in De Vrij ahead of the summer transfer window and that they face competition from Manchester City for the centre-back.

The report asserts that City and Spurs are both willing to spend €40m (£33.6m) to snap up the Inter star.

Spurs Web Opinion

With De Vrij having just 12 months left on his contract with Inter (Transfermarkt), I expect him to be available for closer to £20m than £30m this summer.

The Netherlands international could prove a useful backup to Eric Dier in the central sweeper role should Joe Rodon push for a move.

While the 30-year-old is not going to start ahead of Dier, Conte will need more options next season if we are to compete domestically and in Europe.
