Both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen’s defender, Odilon Kossounou, with a view to potentially bringing him to the Premier League in the summer.
Bayer Leverkusen have a brilliant range of centre-back options, and the German side’s defence has been the foundation upon which Xabi Alonso has built a team that is now challenging for the Bundesliga title this year.
From Edmond Tapsoba, Piero Hincapie, Jonathan Tah, and now Odilon Kossounou, Leverkusen are spoiled for choice in the centre of defence, but other clubs are sniffing around all four players.
Tottenham have consistently been linked with all of the above names over the course of the last 12 months.
Spurs and United both want Kossounou
Despite now having Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin at their disposal, it seems the Lilywhites are still looking to bring in one more central defender. And, according to the latest report from SportBILD (via Sport Witness), Kossounou could be that man.
Apparently, Spurs will face competition for the signature of the Ivorian from Premier League rivals Manchester United this summer, with both clubs thought to be “watching” Kossounou of late.
Described as an “average player” upon his arrival at Leverkusen in 2021, the towering centre-half has developed into a “top defender” now, and someone who is likely to be sought after this summer.
It is believed any transfer would cost “at least €50m” (£42.8m), with Leverkusen keen to make it known they are not interested in selling.
Spurs Web Opinion
Kossouou would probably be my fourth choice out of all the Leverkusen defenders, but he is still a very good player who would do a great job at Spurs. While other targets are ahead of him for now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this speculation continue.
