Report: Spurs and Man United both bid £42.5m for defender – He prefers one option

According to Spanish publication Cadena Ser, Tottenham have made an offer worth £42.5 million for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Torres turned down a move to N17 last summer, explaining in an interview with La Resistencia that he felt lucky to play for his boyhood club in the Champions League and therefore decided not to accept Spurs’ more lucrative offer.

He has gone from strength to strength for Unai Emery’s side this season. The Spanish defender is known for his composure in possession and ability to start attacks with precise passing. Out of possession, he reads the game perfectly and has great positional awareness.

However, Cadena Ser understand that Torres prefers a move to Manchester United. The Red Devils are weighing up their options but are said to be keen on the 25-year-old.

Spurs have seemingly identified their left-sided centre back options, with the Lilywhites reportedly also at the head of the queue to swoop for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni (Corriere Dello Sport).

With Conte set to be backed with an extra £150 million from investors (Spurs Official), the Italian will be insisting that he gets the new left-sided centre back that has been on his wishlist (The Telegraph).

If this turns out to be Torres, Bastoni, or another player, as long as they have Conte’s blessing Spurs fans should be happy.
