It seems both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will go head to head in an attempt to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, though it remains to be seen whether either side will be able to meet the Eagles’ £60m valuation of the player.
Since making the switch from Chelsea to Selhurst Park back in 2020, Guehi has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and has managed to become a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, too.
Tottenham have been looking to improve their defensive ranks ever since last season, when the Spurs backline leaked 63 goals throughout the campaign. The signing of Micky van de Ven in the summer improved the situation, but more still needs to be done.
That has been especially evident since the young Dutchman picked up an injury at the start of last month, leaving Ange Postecoglou thin on options in the heart of defence alongside Cristian Romero.
Spurs will have to spend big for Guehi
Spurs have long been linked with Guehi (90Min), but they are not the only ones. The latest from sources at Football Insider suggests the Lilywhites will have to fight off competition from Manchester United if they are to sign the English defender, and even then it won’t be simple.
Both clubs are thought to have “registered their interest” in the 23-year-old, and the race to sign him is “hotting up” ahead of the January transfer window.
Apparently, Palace value Guehi at £60m, but United are only willing to go to £45m next month. It is unknown where Spurs stand from a financial point of view on this transfer.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be very happy if we could sign Marc Guehi, but I just can’t see it happening due to the price tag attached to him. Palace will make it very difficult for any club to sign him, at least in January.
However, if they keep struggling in the league, Guehi may look to push a move through in the summer.
