According to a report by German news outlet Sport Bild, Tottenham Hotspur are among a host of European giants to have registered their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
The 22-year-old is making huge strides in the Bundesliga this season and Spurs are said to be facing heavy competition for his signature with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and Manchester United all wanting the youngster.
Zakaria has also been impressive on the international scene, having already won 24 caps for Switzerland (transfermarket.com) and is becoming an increasingly important player for the side.
The Swiss international is reportedly available for a fee of around €50 million and Monchengladbach’s sporting director has admitted that the club might have to sell him.
While Tottenham did add to their central midfield ranks in the summer with the acquisitions of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, the latter has been injured for the majority of the time and Pochettino is yet to find a combination which works.
This report indicates that he wants to bolster his central midfielder options even further in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
Harry Winks looks like he has a starting place nailed down and if Spurs do go for someone of the ilk of Denis Zakaria in January, then that probably signals an end to Eric Dier’s Spurs career. I believe however that there are other areas of the squad like full back that need more urgent addressing and thus should be prioritised.
