Report: Spurs and Man Utd in four-way Premier League race to sign youngster on a free

Tottenham are one of four Premier League clubs interested in signing teenage Derby forward Malcolm Ebiowei, according to the Daily Mail.

The 18-year-old emerged as one of the few positive stories in a difficult season for the Midlands side, which culminated in relegation to League One from the Championship.

Ebiowei managed to earn the trust of manager Wayne Rooney in the second half of the campaign, but his efforts were not enough for Derby to beat the drop and recover from their 21-point deduction.

And his promising displays have now put him on the radar of a host of clubs in the English top flight ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham are alongside the likes of Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Newcastle in their pursuit of the young winger, whose current deal expires next month (TransferMarkt).

Ebiowei played part of the season with Derby U18s and U23s before being called into the first team for the final portion of the campaign.

He went on to make 16 appearances for the Rams in his first taste of senior football, scoring one goal and assisting a further two (Transfermarkt).

A relegation fight is a tough scenario to be thrown into as a first taste of senior football, but Ebiowei seems to have done well given the circumstances.

This could be the opportunity for Spurs to bring in another talented youngster to bolster their options in the academy set-up, but they will have to fend off plenty of other teams before that.
