Report: Spurs and Man Utd-linked star will only leave if release clause is met

Correio da Manha have revealed that Porto will not sell rumoured Tottenham target Diogo Costa in January unless the goalkeeper’s release clause is met.

Costa had already won several admirers since establishing himself as Porto’s number one at the start of last season and the 23-year-old’s stock has grown even further thanks to his showing for Portugal at the World Cup.

He was first mooted as a target for Spurs last month when 90 min claimed that the Porto shot-stopper is part of a five-man shortlist drafted for their number-one spot next summer.

Relevo reported earlier this month that Manchester United are also eyeing Costa while Dean Jones subsequently revealed to GiveMeSport that the goalkeeper is also on Chelsea’s radar.

In their latest report, Correio da Manha have primarily covered Man Utd’s pursuit of the Porto number one, claiming that he is the Red Devils’ top target to replace David De Gea.

However, the publication explains that Costa has a release clause of €75m (£65.4m) in his contract and the Portuguese club will only let him leave if that clause is met.

Based on his showing at the World Cup, Costa does not seem to have any weaknesses. He is a good shot-stopper, is not afraid to come out to claim crosses and is decent with the ball at his feet.

So, it is not surprising that several Premier League clubs are eyeing the 23-year-old. However, I doubt any club would be willing to meet the aforementioned release clause, given that the goalkeeper has only played at the highest level for a year and a half.
