Report: Spurs and Man Utd set to compete for experienced Serie A star

According to a report in the print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia), Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reportedly interested in Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

Brozovic, who has been a consistent performer for the Nerrazuri and the Croatian national team over the years, will be a free agent at the end of the current season.

The midfielder is allegedly demanding a pay rise in order to sign a new contract with the reigning Serie A champions.

Gazzetta claim that Brozovic would like to see his current €4.2m-a-year (£3.6m) salary increased to €6m-a-year (£5.1m) in order to sign on the dotted line.

The report reveals that Paris Saint-Germain entered into talks with Inter regarding the Croat over the summer but were not able to strike a deal.

It is alleged that Brozovic remains on the Parisians’ radar but Spurs and Man Utd have now also expressed interest.

Gazzetta suggest that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, tried to sign the 28-year-old when he was at Juventus and remains an admirer of the experienced midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no question that we need reinforcements in central midfield in January. If Brozovic does not sign a new deal, one would expect Inter to cash in on him in January to avoid losing him for free next summer.

I would certainly not mind seeing us add the 28-year-old to the squad as I believe Hojbjerg needs more competition for his place in the side.
