Report: Spurs and Man Utd set to miss out on transfer target

While reports over recent weeks have seen Spurs linked with midfielders and attackers from across Europe, the Lilywhites are also reportedly in the lookout for a central defender in the event of Toby Alderweireld departing the club this summer (Football.London).

While the Belgian has hinted that he might stay at the club beyond this summer (ESPN), there is a release clause in his contract set at a modest £25 million (The Guardian), which will surely make him an attractive prospect for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

One central defender who Spurs are said to be tracking is Stuttgart defender Ozan Kabak (Daily Mail).

The 19-year-old was one of the standout performers for the Bundesliga club last season but his performances couldn’t save Stuttgart from relegation.

The Turk, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, is said to have a £13.5million release clause in his contract.

Sport Bild now report that Schalke are on the verge of meeting the release clause and securing the teenager’s services ahead of the likes of Spurs and Man Utd.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are well stocked at centre back with Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Foyth, Dier, and Davies all capable of playing in the role.

We believe it will be ideal if the club can hold on to Alderweireld for one more season, and concentrate instead on improving other areas this summer.
