Report: Spurs and Manchester United send scouts to watch highly-rated 20-year-old

Spurs sent scouts to Belgium this week to watch Genk’s Jonathan David in action according to a report by Het Laatste Nieuws.

The forward is enjoying an impressive season, having notched up 23 goals and 10 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign (transfermarkt).

The 20-year-old’s performances are reportedly attracting the interests of several clubs from across Europe.

David’s agent, Nick Mavromaros has already revealed that his client dreams of a move to Manchester United and the Red Devils also reportedly sent officials to watch the forward in action against AS Roma on Thursday.

The report in Het Laatste Nieuws (as translated by Sport Witness) reveals that the 20-year-old set the ‘stadium on fire’ with his performance and troubled the Roma defence throughout European tie.

While his 25th-minute strike was not enough to see Genk progress to the last 16 of the Europa League, it is suggested that his performances would have likely had Tottenham’s scouts impressed.

It is also revealed that the Belgium club turned down an offer of €25m from an un-named club for the Canadian international in January.

The problem with signing a young attacking player is that it could interrupt Troy Parrott’s development. However, based on Jose’s words about Parrott so far, I expect the Irishman to be loaned out next season.
