Report: Spurs and Milan could be set to battle it out for £15m-rated star

TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan could be set to battle it out for the services of Mike Maignan this summer.

There has been a lot of speculation over Hugo Lloris’ future over the last few weeks as the Frenchman is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Spurs.

Despite Jose Mourinho revealing his intention to hang on to the 34-year-old, reports continue to suggest that the Tottenham captain could be on his way out this summer.

Maignan is rumoured to be one of the names on Tottenham’s radar as Lloris’ potential successor, with Nuno Santos and Joao Sacramento both said to be pushing for the North Londoners to sign the goalkeeper, who they worked with during their time at Lille.

However, TMW have now claimed that the Lille number one is also at the top of AC Milan’s wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report explains that the Serie A giants could challenge Tottenham in their pursuit of Maignan if they are not able to agree on a new contract with Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It is alleged that Lille would be ready to let the 25-year-old for around €17m-€18m (£14.7m-£15.6m).

Spurs Web Opinion

The only way I see Spurs selling Lloris is if the Frenchman pushes to leave the club and refuses to sign a contract extension. I fully believe that the Tottenham hierarchy will try their hardest to keep the 34-year-old.

Despite the few errors he has made, he has demonstrated this season that he still has a few years left in him at the top level. Given the club’s financial issues and the various areas of the squad that need strengthening, I do not expect us to spend big on a number one.
