Report: Spurs and Newcastle are looking at Leeds United’s teenage star

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are both keeping tabs on Leeds United’s academy starlet, Oliver Pickles, after the youngster impressed for the club’s academy this season.

While Spurs are busy signing up ready-made talent for the first team under Ange Postecoglou, there is a clear intention to snap up highly rated young players for the future, too.

The Lilywhites have already signed the likes of Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, and Lucas Bergvall in the last year, all of whom should have an incredibly bright future at the club.

Tottenham and Newcastle chasing Leeds youngster

Now, it seems Spurs are shopping around in the Championship once more, with eyes on Leeds United in particular. But, while Archie Gray is impressing for the first team, the Yorkshire club have another top talent emerging in the youth ranks in the form of Oliver Pickles.

According to a report from talkSPORT, the 16-year-old is now on the radar of both Tottenham and Newcastle United.

The report claims the “teenage talent” is likely to be the next player “to be fast-tracked through to the first-team” at Leeds after putting in eye-catching displays as the Whites made it to the FA Youth Cup semi-final.

Comparisons have been made to former Leeds star, Kalvin Phillips, with Pickles exhibiting an impressive “calmness on the ball and range of passing.”

It is thought Pickles has been “attracting admiring glances” from Newcastle and Spurs as a result, and insiders at Leeds United believe the midfielder has a very promising future.

There are some incredibly exciting young players doing great things in the Championship, and we will likely see Pickles taking that next step in his career next season. Whether he does that with Leeds or not will depend on their promotion push, of course, but he is definitely a player to watch out for.
