Report: Spurs and Real Madrid open talks for midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are said to have opened talks over a potential transfer.

While many may immediately assume that the discussions would be centered around Christian Eriksen, AS report that Dani Ceballos is the focal point of the negotiations.

The midfielder is regarded as one of Mauricio Pochettino’s main transfer targets and is keen to bring the 22-year-old to North London.

The report suggests that Los Blancos are reluctant to sell Ceballos despite Zinedine Zidane telling the player that first team opportunities would be difficult this season.

Madrid are open to allow Ceballos to leave the club on loan, an arrangement which Spurs are open to.

The La Liga giants value the former Real Betis player at around €60 million and would have the opportunity for regular game time with Tottenham.

He returned to Madrid earlier this week as a European Under-21 champion following Span’s success in the tournament said on Monday that he wants to play more regular first team football next season.

“I’ve always said that I have a four-year contract with Madrid, but it’s true that I’m happiest playing football,” he told AS.

“That’s when I feel important; it’s on the pitch and playing with confidence when everything is much easier. I want to play 40 games a season and aspire to win.”
