Report: Spurs and Roma in ‘broad agreement’ on Nicolo Zaniolo valuation

According to sources at 90 Min, Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma are on the same wavelength when it comes to the Italian side’s valuation of Nicolo Zaniolo, thought to be around €30 million.

The player has already reportedly asked to leave Roma last week (Gazzetta dello Sport) and by the sounds of it, progress is being made to facilitate his departure, with Tottenham looking to be the likely destination for Zaniolo this month.

Spurs were thought to be leading the race for Zaniolo last week, according to Alfredo Pedulla. However, interest has recently emerged in the shape of fellow Premier League clubs West Ham United and Newcastle United (Voce Giallorossa).

Even more recently, it was thought Zaniolo may have been offered to French giants Paris Saint-Germain (Foot Mercato). Nevertheless, it is Spurs who remain in the driving seat as it stands, with an initial offer of a loan-to-buy deal apparently on the table (Fabrizio Romano).

While that offer has not been accepted at this stage, the latest from 90 Min does suggest the two clubs are getting closer to an agreement that could make the move happen this month.

It seems both Spurs and Roma agree that any deal should be worth around the €30 million mark, but it is the ‘structure of the deal’ that is still up for debate. The Serie A side are believed to be open to an initial loan move for Zaniolo, but ‘only if there was an obligatory purchase clause’ in there, too.

Tottenham are thought to be willing to play ball on that front, but would prefer the clause to ‘only become active if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.’ Should Spurs fail to finish in the top four, the North London club would want an option rather than an obligation on Zaniolo.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact the two clubs are agreeing over the value of the player is a really promising sign, and it sounds like it’s simply the finer details of the deal to arrange now. While I’m not entirely convinced on Zaniolo, the fact we might be about to sign a player is enough to get me excited during this frustrating time.
