Report: Spurs approach to sign Premier League player on loan turned down

Tottenham have seen an approach to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial turned down, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year-old has struggled for game time for the majority of this season, making just two starts in the Premier League.

While a combination of injuries and inconsistency has hampered his place in Ralph Rangnick’s side, Martial has subsequently fallen behind the likes of Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho in the pecking order.

Martial has allegedly already told the United interim manager he wants to leave the club this month with a handful of clubs across England and Europe said to be interested.

Romano has since issued an update on the Frenchman’s future, but has ruled him out from making a move across the Premier League.

The Italian journalist has revealed that Tottenham, alongside Newcastle, have seen approaches turned down by United with Martial not keen on loan moves to another English club.

Spanish outfits Barcelona and Sevilla have been credited with an interest in Martial as well as Juventus, while the Red Devils are requesting the Frenchman’s loan fee and salary are both fully covered.

Martial just doesn’t seem to be a great fit for Spurs at the moment. Granted he would be able to add some depth going forward, but there are question marks as to whether he would suit a system led by Antonio Conte. He also won’t be a cheap acquisition either, even if on loan.
