Report: Spurs are ‘advancing with force’ to try and sign experienced striker

Sport Witness have relayed reports from the print editions of both A Bola and Correio da Manha (August 7), with both publications suggesting that Tottenham are stepping up their pursuit of FC Porto’s Mehdi Taremi.

Correio da Manha (via SportWitness) claim Taremi could say farewell to Porto after this week’s match against Benfica as Tottenham continue to push for the centre-forward.

The report states that Spurs’ €24m (£20.6m) offer for the striker has been turned down by Porto, who are demanding €30m (£25.8m) for the player.

It is asserted that Spurs may be prepared to meet the Portuguese club’s asking price if Harry Kane completes a move to Bayern Munich.

Spurs could be eyeing Taremi later in the summer

The outlet adds that Taremi’s move to Tottenham is now ‘gaining strength’, which has created ‘some tension’ at Porto as manager Sergio Conceicao does not want to lose his main goalscorer.

Meanwhile, A Bola also back up the claim about Porto wanting €30m (£25.8m) for the 31-year-old and they state that Tottenham are ‘advancing with force in recent days’ for the player.

However, they point out that Spurs are not the only ones eyeing Taremi, with Inter Milan also said to have entered the race for the Iranian international after abandoning their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be extremely surprised if Taremi is at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Harry Kane. I believe Spurs are much more likely to pursue young, up-and-coming strikers such as Gift Orban and Elye Wahi.
