Report: Spurs are battling two Serie A clubs for 21-year-old defender

The print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) have said that Tottenham remain interested in Riccardo Calafiori but the Lilywhites face competition from two Serie A giants for the Bologna centre-back.

Despite adding Radu Dragusin to his squad in January, Ange Postecoglou confirmed earlier this month that Spurs will pursue a centre-back when the transfer window reopens in the summer (Football.London).

Calafiori, who is having an exceptional season at Bologna, is thought to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar, with Calciomercato.it even claiming last month that Tottenham are ‘in the front row’ to sign the versatile defender.

Spurs face competition for Riccardo Calafiori

Gazzetta have now said that Tottenham are still ‘at the window’ for Calafiori and are continuing to circle over the player ahead of the summer.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men are not the only ones interested in the centre-back, with Napoli and Juventus also thought to be plotting moves for him.

The report says that although Bologna only paid €4m (£3.4m) for Calafiori last summer, they now value him at €25m (£21.4m) and they expect his value to increase further when he breaks into the Italian national side.

Calafiori is the exact profile that Tottenham would be after as he can play as a left-sided centre-back or as a left-back. He is also quite young and Postecoglou will fancy his chances of moulding the Italian into a top-class player, given the attributes the defender possesses.
