Report: Spurs are ‘best positioned’ to snap up Barcelona star in January

Sport have now revealed that Tottenham are the front-runners for Franck Kessie’s signature but explained that the midfielder is reluctant to leave Barcelona in January.

Kessie was reported to be on Tottenham’s radar before the summer transfer window (MilanNews) but it was Barcelona who snapped up the midfielder on a free transfer after his contract with AC Milan ran out.

AS revealed last week that the Ivorian is not part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans and that Barca would be willing to cash in on him just six months after his arrival at the club.

Sport have now explained that three clubs, in the form of Spurs, Inter Milan and Napoli have expressed interest in Kessie ahead of the January window, with the North London club said to be the ‘best positioned’.

While Inter and Napoli have allegedly reached out to the midfielder’s representatives, the Lilywhites are said to have made contact with Barca regarding a loan deal with an ‘interesting purchase option’.

However, it is explained that Kessie is not in a hurry to leave Camp Nou and would prefer to remain at the club until the end of the season before making a decision on his future in the summer.

Finally, Sport add that if the Catalonian club do decide that it would be in their best interest to cash in on the 25-year-old, the former Milan star ‘will not cause problems to leave’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Barcelona’s financial problems, they have no choice but to trim down their wage bill and I believe they will want to let Kessie leave if Xavi does not see the midfielder as being part of his plans.

Tottenham should be able to offer the 25-year-old as well as Barcelona a better financial package than Inter or Napoli but the player might be tempted to return to the comforts of the Serie A.
