Report: Spurs are closely following French attacking midfielder

According to a report in Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are closely monitoring the progress of St Etienne attacking midfielder Mathys Saban.

The 17-year-old midfielder is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Ligue 1 outfit but has caught the attention for the club’s U-19 side.

GFFN claim that the teenager has notched up six goals from twelve games for the French side’s academy this campaign, which is an impressive strike rate for a midfielder.

While little is known about the youngster to people unfamiliar with French football, his performances at youth level are said to be turning heads with RB Leipzig also said to be watching him.

It is claimed in the report that several of St Etienne’s youth stars are turning heads with William Saliba completing a transfer to Arsenal just last summer.

However, the report does not mention that Spurs are considering a bid for the youngster and so it could be the case that he is just one of many the club are monitoring.

Spurs Web Opinion

With the purchases of Jack Clarke and Ryan Sessegnon this summer and reports continuing to link us to young talents, it does look like the club is continuing to stick to a policy of buying promising talent rather than proven stars. Jose Mourinho doesn’t have a great track record of developing young players and so it will be interesting to see if the club’s transfer policy will evolve in the coming years.
