Report: Spurs are ‘currently pessimistic’ about their pursuit of centre-back

Tottenham are not confident of agreeing a deal for Jean-Clair Todibo following their first round of talks with Nice, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last week, you would be aware that Tottenham have made Todibo their top centre-back target for January, with various reliable sources revealing that the Lilywhites have opened talks with Nice as well as the player (Fabrizio Romano – YouTube).

However, if updates over the last few days are to be e believed, Spurs’ pursuit of the 23-year-old is expected to be anything but straightforward.

Various journalists have suggested this week that Manchester United are set to challenge the North Londoners for the player (Rudy Galetti) while others have said that Nice could block a sale next month as they anticipate a summer bidding war for the defender (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold)

It was even asserted by Pete O’Rourke in his column on Football Insider on Monday that the Ligue 1 club could decide to price Tottenham out of a move for the France international.

Tottenham not confident about signing Todibo

Jacobs has now become the latest reporter to downplay Spurs’ chances of getting Todibo through the door in next month’s transfer window.

The journalist took to social media to reveal that following their talks over a deal for the Nice star, Ange Postecoglou’s men are pessimistic about the transfer.

I believe that one of the reasons Tottenham started talks with Nice so early was that they were aware that the deal might prove a little complicated. If there is no progress in the negotiations over the next couple of days, I expect Spurs to quickly turn their attention to alternatives such as Radu Dragusin.
