Report: Spurs are in contact with striker’s agents – PL move is in his sights

According to 90min, rumoured Tottenham target Darwin Nunez has informed Benfica of his desire to leave this summer.

Nunez is enjoying a prolific campaign in front of goal, having found the back of the net 26 times in all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

The Athletic reported this week that agent Jorge Mendes had approached the Uruguayan international about potentially replacing Harry Kane at Spurs this summer while O Jogo (via Sport Witness) have claimed that the striker is valued at around €80m (£67.8m).

90 min have now stated that Nunez now feels he is ready to take a step up this season and is eyeing a move to the Premier League.

The report reveals that Spurs have made contact with the forward’s representatives along with the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

In addition, it is revealed that Manchester United have watched Nunez closely this season while West Ham could also make another attempt to swoop for the player, having failed with an approach in January.

Finally, a source with knowledge of the Benfica star’s situation explained to 90 min that the striker believes he can succeed in the Premier League, having watched how well Luis Diaz has done at Liverpool since his move from Porto.

The source is quoted as saying in the report: “The Premier League is where the most interest is coming from, and Nunez has a real desire to play in England, no doubt.

“He has also seen just how well Luis Diaz has performed and settled into life, but also the clubs have seen that and they believe Nunez could be just as good if not better.”

Nunez is quite versatile and he could quite easily be fitted into a front three with Kane and Son. However, the 22-year-old is at his best when he operates as a number nine and that is why I doubt if he would be keen to join Spurs if Kane stays, particularly given the number of options he could potentially have to choose from this summer.
