Report: Spurs are interested in Derby starlet but Arsenal would earn a fee from the deal

The Sun have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a potential move for Derby County centre-forward Malcolm Ebiowei.

Ebiowei, who has seven goals in seven games in the Under-18 Premier League, impressed when he was handed opportunities in the Championship by Wayne Rooney this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Following Derby’s relegation to League One, The Sun reveal that a host of clubs, including Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Leeds United have their eye on the 18-year-old.

In addition, RB Leipzig are also thought to be weighing up a move for the youngster, who came through the ranks of the Arsenal academy and then had a brief stint at Rangers before joining the Rams.

Ebiowei’s contract at Pride Park runs out this summer and the report claims he is ‘unlikely’ to sign a new deal.

However, it is explained that interested clubs would still have to pay a fee for the teenager, with Arsenal, Rangers and Derby in line for compensation payments.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have been linked with more EFL starlets ahead of this summer’s transfer window than any time in the past, which is not surprising considering that we are very close to the limit of foreign-born players allowed for European competitions.

If Spurs do end up winning the race for the likes of Ebiowei or Ronnie Edwards, one would expect them to loan these youngsters back out to the EFL to continue their development.
