Sport have now claimed there is confidence at Barcelona that they will agree on a deal with Tottenham for the transfer of Clement Lenglet, with the two clubs not far apart in their valuations of the centre-back.
On Monday, we covered a report in the AS (as relayed by Sport Witness), which claimed that Spurs are prepared to play the waiting game for Lenglet.
It was explained that the North London club were aware that Barcelona cannot afford to pay the Frenchman’s salary.
It was alleged that Ange Postecoglou’s side were hoping that the Catalan giants would release Lenglet so they can snap up the 27-year-old on a free transfer.
Spurs and Barcelona growing closer on Lenglet deal
However, Sport have now suggested that Xavi Hernandez’s men are optimistic about the sale as ‘everything indicates’ that Lenglet’s move to Spurs will go through.
The report states that Tottenham are willing to offer €10m (£8.5m) for the centre-back while Barca are holding out for €15m (£12.8m), with the two clubs being just €5m (£4.2m) apart in their valuations.
However, the publication does add that the Catalan club would also need to reach an agreement with Lenglet on the wages he is owed and the remainder of his contract as Tottenham will not match the salary that he is currently on at Camp Nou.
Spurs Web Opinion
I fully expect Tottenham to sign Lenglet as a backup to Micky Van de Ven for the left-sided centre-back role.
£10m would be a decent price for someone of the Frenchman’s experience and he could do a job as a squad player for one more season before being upgraded on next summer.
