Report: Spurs are keeping an eye on 26-goal striker – Lots of competition

L’Equipe have reported that Tottenham are keeping an eye on Lille striker, Jonathan David, in case they have to look for a Harry Kane replacement at some point this summer (14/07/23 – as relayed by SportWitness).

It is said that David has admirers at plenty of big European clubs at the moment, including Spurs, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs would have to pay big to sign Jonathan David

Lille have reportedly set their price at £51.5m for the Canadian forward and were hoping that someone would come in at that level, although the striker merry-go-round has not quite started yet this summer.

Of course, if Harry Kane was to secure a Tottenham exit in the next month, that could all change.

Jonathan David scored 26 and assisted another four in 40 games across all competitions last season, while also featuring for Canada in the World Cup (TransferMarkt).

Ben Jacobs also reported recently that Spurs had looked at the French league striker in the past.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I suspect that if Tottenham were to sell Harry Kane, they would go for someone like David who could bring something a little different – high press and high energy.

There is no point trying to sign a like-for-like Kane replacement, because there literally isn’t one. Best to sign someone more in the Ange Postecoglou mould if it comes to that.
