Report: Spurs are ‘keeping an eye’ on La Liga star with £42.8m release clause

Speculation is mounting surrounding Nico Williams’ future at Athletic Bilbao, with a report from The Telegraph now claiming Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the young Spaniard’s situation with a view to making a move in the summer.

It has been a busy week for Nico Williams. The winger helped Bilbao end a 40-year wait for a trophy at the weekend, with the Basque club lifting the Copa del Rey on Saturday evening after a penalty shootout in the final.

However, a move to the Premier League could well be on the cards for Williams. Spurs have already been linked with the 21-year-old, but Chelsea and Arsenal are also thought to be interested (Mirror).

Just today, a report from Spanish outlet AS (via Sport Witness) suggested the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Liverpool have ‘tempted’ Williams to consider a switch to England.

Spurs weighing up move for Nico Williams

This reported interest from the Premier League has been corroborated by The Telegraph, who claim Williams will be “at the centre of” a transfer battle between various English clubs this summer.

Spurs are thought to be “keeping an eye on” Williams’ situation, and are one of a number of clubs “weighing up” a deal that could be worth £42.8m as per the player’s release clause.

It is believed Ange Postecoglou‘s side are believed to be assessing “whether additions are needed” in that particular position, but they will face “intense competition” for one of the hottest properties in Spain.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be very happy if we did sign Nico Williams, and I think he could be a real game-changer of a signing for us. He’s young, but has so much talent already and would be able to adapt to the Premier League very quickly, you’d think. It won’t be easy to secure the signing but we have to go all out for this one.
