Report: Spurs are ‘laying the groundwork’ to sign 26-year-old in the summer

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are already working on a potential deal to bring Marcel Sabitzer to the club when the transfer window opens in the summer.

Sabitzer was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham during the January transfer window and although the move did not materialise, previous reports have backed Spurs to return for the Austrian in the summer.

SportBild reported last week that RB Leipzig are prepared to sell the midfielder at the end of the season as he will only have one year left on his deal at the Red Bull Arena.

Football Insider now reveal that the Bundesliga club’s efforts to get him signed to a new deal have failed and they are now ready to cash-in on him in the summer.

The report suggests that Tottenham’s scouts have been impressed with the Leipzig star’s performances this season and enquired about his availability in January.

The North London club are currently said to be laying the groundwork for a potential deal in the summer, with Leipzig already on the lookout for Sabitzer’s replacement.

Spurs Web Opinion

We simply have not been able to replace the goals from midfield that we got from Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen a couple of years ago, which is why we have become over-reliant on Kane and Son to get the goals this season. Getting Sabitzer would help us to partially address that problem.
