Report: Spurs are leading the race to sign 30-year-old Premier League star

Tuttosport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are currently the front-runners to snap up Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez during the summer transfer window.

90 min reported two weeks ago that Martinez is on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer.

The publication added that the former Arsenal goalkeeper would prefer to play Champions League football and could thus push for a move away from Villa Park in the summer.

According to TuttoSport’s latest update, while Spurs are leading the race for the Argentine, they are far from the only club eyeing a move for the goalkeeper.

Manchester United and Chelsea also allegedly have their eyes on Martinez while Bayern Munich are thought to be considering him as a potential replacement for Manuel Neuer.

The report adds that the World Cup winner is also attracting attention from Juventus and AS Roma in Italy, with the former having identified the 30-year-old as the man to take over the gloves from Wojciech Szczesny.

TuttoSport explain that Juve could bring Villa’s asking price for Martinez down by offering Weston McKennie to the club, with Unai Emery said to be keen on signing the USA international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Martinez is contracted until 2027 at Villa Park and so, there is every chance that the Argentine could cost more than £50m this summer.

I cannot see Spurs spending that sort of fee on the 30-year-old when there are younger and cheaper options like David Raya available.
