Report: Spurs are not willing to pay more than £17m for centre-back target

According to Giallorossi.net (10/06/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Roger Ibanez but are not willing to meet AS Roma’s valuation of the centre-back.

We covered a report from Gazzetta dello Sport last week, which claimed that Tottenham were leading the race for Ibanez’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

The publication explained that the Serie A side needed to offload some players to balance the books and were ready to cash in on the centre-back.

Giallorossi.net have now revealed that Ibanez has several admirers from abroad, with the outlet naming Tottenham and Atletico Madrid as two clubs are keen on signing the player.

Roma want over £34m for Spurs target Roger Ibanez

However, it is said that neither club are willing to pay over €20m (£17.1m), which falls well short of the fee that Roma are looking for.

The report states that the Serie A club’s sporting director Tiago Pinto has set Ibanzez’s asking price at €40m (£34.2m) in the hope that he will be able to get around €30m (£25.6m)- €32m (£27.4m) for the defender.

Giallorossi.net add that as thing stand, Roma are not having any active negotiations over the Brazil international.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Tottenham are looking within the Premier League for central defenders, given that the likes of Harry Maguire, Marc Guehi and Max Kilman have all been linked with the club over recent weeks.

It appears as if Spurs are intent on adding to their homegrown numbers this summer.
