Report: Spurs are now frontrunners in race for 22-year-old centre-back

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Evan Ndicka this summer.

Spurs are expected to spend big on a left-sided central defender this summer, with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Josko Gvardiol, Pau Torres and Clement Lenglet thought to be among the names on the North London club’s radar (Football.London).

If Foot Mercato’s latest update is to be believed, Antonio Conte’s men also have their eye on Ndicka, whose stock has risen considerably over the last couple of years thanks to his impressive displays in the Bundesliga.

The report claims that the 22-year-old, who can also play at left-back, is of interest to Marseille but it is explained that the Ligue 1 club need to raise money through player sales in order to sign the centre-back.

This is said to have allowed Tottenham to move into pole position to snap up Ndicka from Deutsche Bank Park this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndicka is a talented young defender but I am not convinced that he would be an upgrade over Ben Davies in the left centre-back role. The fact that none of the top clubs around Europe seem to have shown any interest in the France Under-21 international is a little concerning.
