Report: Spurs are now ‘in the dark’ over Lo Celso and Romero situation

The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now in the dark over what happens next for Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero after the pair were accused of withholding information from the Brazilian health authorities.

Lo Celso and Romero, along with Aston Villa pair Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez, joined up with the Argentina squad in South America for their World Cup qualifiers despite the Premier League not allowing players to travel to ‘red list’ countries.

The situation took an embarrassing turn on Sunday when the Brazilian health authorities entered the field and stopped the match between Brazil and Argentina in Sao Paulo.

They accused the four Argentine Premier League players of not disclosing they had been in the UK over the last 14 days, which would necessitate a quarantine period upon entering Brazil.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham have been left angered by the incident and are set to fine Lo Celso and Romero when they return to the UK.

Standard Sport have now explained that, as things stand, Spurs are still not aware of what will happen next with Lo Celso and Romero. The North London club are said to have become ‘increasingly frustrated’ by the situation.

It is explained that Spurs officials are in touch with the AFA and the pair to offer their support but it is unclear as of yet when the duo will be back in the country.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is laughable that a situation like this has unfolded at the top level. Administrators from Brazil, the South American Football Confederation and FIFA must all take some blame for this. Hopefully, the situation is resolved soon and the Spurs pair are able to return to England over the next few days to begin their quarantining period.
