Report: Spurs are now ready to try and do business with Everton once more

90 min have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now ready to push ahead with a move for Everton centre-back Ben Godfrey ahead of the January transfer window.

Godfrey has fallen down Sean Dyche’s pecking order, having made just two appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Multiple sources have revealed over the last few weeks that the Toffees are ready to offload the England international, with Spurs alleged to be monitoring his situation (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

Tottenham ready to step up Ben Godfrey interest

90 min have now also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Godfrey, stating that the North London club are now ready to make advances towards the defender.

The outlet states that signing a centre-back is a priority for the Lilywhites in January, with the Everton man said to have been identified by the club as a player who is suited to Ange Postecoglou’s system.

The report asserts that Tottenham’s scouts have been impressed by the 25-year-old and adds that the Merseyside club would be willing to sell the player for around £20m plus add-ons.

The one thing that is quite evident is that Spurs are looking for a backup to Van de Ven and Romero rather than a guaranteed starter, which is why I do not think the North London club would spend upwards of £35m-£40m.

Despite how his stock has fallen over the last couple of years, Godfrey certainly has the attributes to play in Postecoglou’s backline. The 25-year-old is certainly a much better fit for Ange’s system than he is for Dyche’s.
